From September 7 to the 14th The Hague Library is holding an exhibition: Taalverhalen in Den Haag (Stories of People Learning Dutch in The Hague). The personal stories and portraits of people learning Dutch as a second language will be the main theme of this exhibition.
Being able to speak Dutch enables people to participate more fully in society, connect with others, and feel more at home in our city. This is incredibly important, which is why it is at the heart of this exhibition. By highlighting and sharing different language stories, we hope to inspire others to take the next step on their own language-learning journey.
People across The Hague are learning and practising Dutch every day and in all kinds of places: at the gym, at home with family, while volunteering, or by taking part in language activities at the library. Through words and images, this exhibition gives people living in The Hague the opportunity to share their language journeys: why they are learning Dutch, the challenges they face, and what the Dutch language means to them in their daily lives.
With this exhibition, The Hague Library aims to inspire and encourage people in The Hague who find Dutch challenging to take the next step towards improving their language skills. By working together to help people strengthen their Dutch fluency, we are also helping to create a city where everyone can participate.
Reading and Writing Week (September 8-15)
The exhibition will be open daily during Reading and Writing Week (Week van Lezen en Schrijven). Various language-themed activities will also be organised by Stichting Lezen en Schrijven throughout the week. There will be a festive opening ceremony on September 9 at 5PM.
