October 10 is World Homeless Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of people experiencing homelessness around the world. To mark the occasion, the Municipality of The Hague is organizing the exhibition Meer dan Dakloos (More than Homeless) at Atrium City Hall from October 12 until October 17. The exhibition will then be on display at Amare, The Hague, from October 19 until October 26.

More than Homeless
In the exhibition Meer dan Dakloos, you will meet artists who have experienced homelessness and discover their work. For some artists, their experience of homelessness is central to their work, whilst others are inspired by different themes such as identity, resilience, dreams or everyday life.

Through the portraits by photographer Jeffrey Grouwstra and the interviews by Judith Eykelenboom, visitors gain an insight into the person behind the artwork. Homelessness can have a big impact on a person’s life. At the same time, it does not define who they are. Every person has their own story.

Meer dan Dakloos shows the diversity of the people and experiences behind homelessness. The exhibition invites visitors to look beyond the label, because homelessness can happen to anyone.

Jeffrey Grouwstra
Jeffrey Grouwstra is a documentary photographer. His work focuses on small, personal stories that are linked to wider social and societal issues. He is also the founder of KijkLab, a studio for participatory photography.

Judith Eykelenboom
Judith Eykelenboom is a writer and journalist. In her work, Judith seeks out the person behind the story. What drives someone, what experiences shape a life, and what often remains untold? With her curious and engaged perspective, she captures personal stories and gives a voice to people and social issues that are not always visible.
