Imagine: a ball pit in the Binnenhof, a slide from the Hague Tower, or watching fish in a large aquarium in the Hofvijver. Sounds cool, right?

In the Atrium stands a super-sized painting: View of The Hague. It’s almost 400 years old and created by the painter Jan van Goyen. The painting shows what The Hague looked like in 1650. Together with a museum educator, you’ll explore this during a fun workshop during the De Betovering festival. Can you recognize familiar places like the Knight’s Hall, the Grote Kerk (Great Church), or the old Town Hall? And can you see how much has changed?

Then it’s your turn to create! What do you imagine The Hague to look like now? What would you add if you were in charge? Anything is possible, as long as you can imagine it! Together with other children, you’ll create a new, imaginative painting: your own version of The Hague!

This activity is organized by the Hague Historical Museum Hague Historical Museum together with Atrium City Hall.

Practical information
We kindly ask parents to remain present in the Atrium during the workshop. They are welcome to visit the art work View of The Hague and the exhibition Jan van Goyen and the view of The Hague during the workshop.

The Enchantment Kids’ Autum Break for an International Audience!
Each year, during the Autumn Break, the international children’s art festival ‘De Betovering’ (The Enchantment) takes place in The Hague. From October 17th to 25th, 2025, children between the ages of 0 and 12 years will be treated to around 500 performances and workshops at 60 different locations.
