A ball pit at the Binnenhof, an aquarium in the Hofvijver, or a slide from the Hague Tower—what does your ideal The Hague look like? A special artwork is on display in the Atrium City Hall: View of The Hague from the southeast, a 17th-century painting by Jan van Goyen. This painting from the collection of the Hague Historical Museum shows what The Hague looked like around 1650. During this workshop, you’ll explore this historic cityscape under the guidance of a museum educator. Can you spot familiar places like the Binnenhof, the Great Church, and the old City Hall? And what’s changed since then?

After that, it’s time for your vision of the city. What does The Hague look like today? And what would you like to add? Anything is possible—as long as you can imagine it! Together with other children, you’ll help create a new, collective painting: the most beautiful version of The Hague!

This activity is organized by the Hague Historical Museum Hague Historical Museum together with Atrium City Hall.

Practical information
We kindly ask parents to remain present in the Atrium during the workshop. They are welcome to visit the exhibition about Jan van Goyen and the view of The Hague and View of The Hague from the southeast, on view from October 7 until October 31.

The Enchantment Kids’ Autum Break for an International Audience!
Each year, during the Autumn Break, the international children’s art festival ‘De Betovering’ (The Enchantment) takes place in The Hague. From October 17th to 25th, 2025, children between the ages of 0 and 12 years will be treated to around 500 performances and workshops at 60 different locations.
